Line type for markups show as dashed lines in Navisworks Manage 2017

The linetype for marking up a view have been coming in dashed as opposed to solid lines in Navisworks Manage 2017.  Is there anyway to change the linetype?

See Attachments.  One of them is from Navis 2016 and the other in question is Navis 2017

Thank you for the screenshots.   I'm trying to reproduce this issue and have some questions-

  1. What is the result if you open the 2016 version (the one with the arrows) in NW2017 and look at the same view?
  2. If you draw freehand markups somewhere away from the building in the same view, do you get solid lines?
  3. If you create a freehand markup in 2016, then open in 2017, does the freehand markup appear solid?
  4. Does the same happen on any computer with this file?
  5. Are you able to reproduce this easily in 2017?

Also, What's the build number of your Navisworks?

Question 1 - Lines are dashed

Question 2 - No

Question 3 - No

Question 4 - The same happens on any computer running NW2017 no matter the file.

Question 5 - Yes

I'm not sure of the answer to what is happening.

Can you post this 2016 file?  I'd like to try it on my end.  Thank you.

File is attached.  It is actually a 2015 file as some of QC users only have Freedom 2015 on their machines.  Either way the file is fine in 2015, and 2016.  Again our issue is on any file we open up in 2017 no matter the computer as it has been tried on the 3 machines that are currently installed with 2017 only.

@JayD_504

I've opened the file in NWManage 2017.  Any markup I draw is showing as solid.  Is there a particular viewpoint that I should test in?

This may be a graphics issue.

What are the specs of one of the computers you are using including OS and Graphics information.

There is no specific view as it will do it in any view.  all of the computers are different.  specs on my computer are windows 7 os and nvidia quadro k5000m video card.  If it were a graphics issue then why would the issue only present itself within NWmanage 2017 and not the other versions of NWmanage?

There may be Navisworks specific graphic option settings that may be causing this issue.

In NW2017 from the application menu, Click Options.

Not knowing exactly the issue, Can you compare 2016 and 2017 settings?

Here are my setting using Win7x64 NVIDIA Quadro K2100M

Adjusting my settings in 2017 based upon your snap shot seems to have fixed the issue.

That's great to hear!

Do you know which variable made the difference?  This may help other people to find the exact problem more quickly.

You may also want to update to the latest video driver for k5000m if you don't already have it.

I cant pinpoint the exact variable made the difference but i would assume it had to have been switching the graphic system from Autodesk to basic.

I have had the same problem as the original poster, and this is an unacceptable solution.  Changing the option Interface->Display->Graphics System->System from Autodesk to Basic "solves" the linetype issue, but it also removes anti-aliasing and makes the model render terribly.  This is a bug in an extremely expensive piece of professional software used by people who care about how things look.  Dumbing-down the entire graphics system is not an acceptable solution.

Agreed with colbi.cannon When you change to basic option, you lose the last redeeming quality of visualization for Navisworks. I would like to be able to show solid lines, AND have ambient occlusion.

Hello all.

I was having this issue and want to specify the exact setting that's causing this. If you look at the image posted for display settings, (NW_2017DisplayOptions.PNG 172 KB), there is a drop down box for "System" under "Graphics System" (kind of in the middle). Switching this from Basic to Autodesk and vice versa toggles the dashed lines on and off.

Hope this helps!

Actually a previous poster noted it was the rendering engine causing this..

THAT does NOT solve the problem.

It bandaids the issue.. the work around is worse than the problem. ALso I would like to note the width of arrows and lines also changes between versions..

Overall Navis is a great program, BUT the Redline tool is an embarrassment.  Autodesk should give us basic tools that we can get in most any program.

ACAD10 ( Circ. 1992 ) had more features than the Redline tool in Navis..

Seriously how long til we get a decent redline tool ? and while we are at it, cutting down the number of windows and some basic updating of the GUI gonna happen ?

Hi! You need installing Navisworks 2017.1 Update

I'm guessing you haven't used Navisworks very long? This system is full of bugs that I can get to crash Navisworks at will every time. I've reported them ad nasium to Audotdesk Tech support and have not gotten a single fix. There has hardly been any development at all on Navisworks in the past five years. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for them to fix these things. Only option is workarounds. 😞

Now if Autodesk wants to team with me to develop a newer, better, more efficient version of Navisworks that actually WORKS and provides users better functionality, reliability, then I'm more than willing to help with that. But thus far that offer too has fallen on deaf ears.
