Could you clarify a little more? When you say 'texture' do you mean material colour, or image map, bump map etc? This might be a Unity problem - I use this workflow a bit, but I open the FBX file in Blender, and it works Ok - not great, but OK.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

I found this weird problem that once a 3d model exported to fbx format by using navisworks, the texture (image) can only be displayed correctly by navisworks itself. other softwares like (Unity, blender) can't show the texture.

I attached two 3d model files with same content, this model only contain texture (image) and no color, no materials, one is original fbx file(Zombie.fbx), other is I opened the original fbx by navisworks and export to a new fbx file (Zombie-new.fbx)

The original fbx file was I copy the sample file from "Autodesk FBX converter 2013.3" software.

I tried Navisworks 2024,2023 even Navisworks 2015, but the problem was still happened.

Not sure how to export fbx with texture (image) using navisworks that can be correct load by other 3D softwares

Thanks.

Hello, I hope you are feeling well. You can solve it if when you export your model as FBX you activate the Copy to a single place and Reference option and save your textures in a specific location. This will save the textures as separate files. When you import the model into Blender, you just edit the materials and reload the textures into the material. The material is already created, you just have to reload the textures. However, I'm not sure if this is the best workflow, as doing this breaks the texture mapping completely and you will have to readjust it. Navisworks usually works with BIM models which come from applications like Revit. This model seems to me that it comes from some software like 3dsmax and at the time of exporting it had problems even with the location of the coordinates, since it is lying down. It will be more appropriate to adjust it from the creation software.

Hi DidierRamirezDarjo

Your solution can be fixed this issue by manual doing something. thanks for your demo and illustration. but in some complex environment, for example one rvt file has hundreds texture(picture) in 2k references. it is so difficult to complete the combination in manually.

BY the way, are you usually open rvt file in blender software? that is only way to use navisworks to convert to FBX and import into blender? I want to find the automatic way to GLTF with texture (image) from rvt format for my final goal.

Good morning, I'm glad to hear that you find what I shared helpful. In this case, if your workflow is with Revit, everything is simplified. The solution I shared with you is for an atypical case. A character like the one you shared with us would not be a model that would be regularly worked on in Navisworks, that's why you have to do it manually. However, being a Revit model, you can save the Navisworks step. You can export directly to FBX from Revit:

However, this option also has the problem that it does not carry the textures in the model. From my own experience, in the new versions of Revit, you will have enabled in the view menu, the FBX exporter for Twin Motion and this add-on is effective to take the model with all the textures and works great with Blender. In case you don't have it installed, you can easily search it on the internet as Datasmith Exporter plugin for Revit. This is the best way to export a BIM model with textures.

I hope you find it useful, greetings!
