Clash Detection CRASH when using Sets

Hi,

Can please someone make some like here?! So,...using one of the most powerful tool of Navisworks (selection sets) in Clash Detection, makes the software to crash???

Everyone is suggesting to work smart not hard and use SEARCH SETS when checking clashes but the software doesn't let you to do this! It works when check one model against the other ( FULL STRUCTURE against FULL MEP) but....use 20 Rules to ignore objects.

This is madness and very frustrating!!!

FYI..not working with SELECTIONS SETS

Hello @ihapaianu,

It is frustrating if software doesn't work as expected. Could you share some more information on your problems? maybe a model? (you may also send it through private message)

Maybe I can help you with this and see what goes wrong, it should work with full models and also with search/selection sets. We have done it many times.

It seems that you have latest version installed.

Waiting for your information.

Hi bwl11

Hi N.Oomen,

I wanted to follow up with you and see if you had found out something (possibly after further communication through private message).

Please, also be aware of the current issue with Microsoft updates causing Navisworks to crash when running clash detection:

Navisworks crashes when trying to run clash in all models

If this article doesn´t apply to your situation, I´d be happy to support you with investigating this issue further.

In this case, I will need the model data and the exact steps to reproduce the crash in the model.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Hi,

Still have the stupid problem, I had the IT department to investigate the issue, I have no problematic window update on my computer and still the problem exists. I think they tried to get in touch with Autodesk support but as usual they are us useless....I am afraid that I can not send you guys any model because of the contractual issues, so I am going to stick with this frustrating situation.

One remark that I noticed, when using Search Sets based on "contains" it crashes constantly..

I still think that is a stupid Navisworks API issue that a toddler with some programming skills somewhere in russia or romania can fix it in half an hour....but for the almighty Autodesk is hard.... my frustration is reaching the top levels

Thank you.

Hi All,

Posting some further information regarding this forum case clarified in our phone call with bwl11.

  • Crash happens with all attempts of clash detection in Navisworks
  • It is reproducible with multiple files
  • the issue is definitely related to the confirmed issue with Microsoft security updates
  • In this case the affected workstation is brand new, so that the OS doesn´t show any updates to uninstall
  • bwl11 will need to contact Microsoft to get support to be able to get back to a previous state of the OS before the issue with Navisworks occurred - this will work as a workaround until the issue is fixed and the fix is released by Microsoft.

I understand this is a pain for all Navisworks users affected by this issue.

I thank all of you guys for your patience and understanding while Microsoft works on a solution.

Our team will keep you informed in the above mentioned Autodesk Knowledge article.

Best regards,
