I am unable to open Inventor models due to this error. Attached screendump.

Navisworks Manage 2014 sp2 on Windows 8.1

Inventor 2014 Vault pro 2014

Options => filereaders => Active project is set to the correct path and ipj.

Any ideas on what's wrong?

Tried reinstall NavisWorks - did'nt help.

Be sure to have all the updated Service Packs installed.

I run into the same error with Navisworks 2014 and Inventor 2014 in Factory Design Suite 2014.

OS is Windows 10.  I installed all Service Packs for Navisworks, Inventor and Windows.

Did anybody  find a solution for this problem?

Same issue here.

I can open other assy's and IPTs, but one big (huge) IAM is giving me the same error message.

As a workaround, save the assembly as DWF and append/load it in Navisworks.

One more year without fix to this. Only the workaround of saving IAM to DWF, then opening that in Navis to save as NWD.

I found a solution/fix! Deactivate the 'Express Mode' setting in the options.

I had the same error with Navisworks Manage 2018 and Inventor 2017.

Manage would not load my main assembly, but would successfully load every single sub-assembly and part. Due to Frame assemblies, it contains approx. 200 parts, and Point Cloud Data.

I deactivated Express mode and it now works.

Did not work for me, removing Express Mode, but thanks for the tip. I never expected this to work though, because this error is so common, it happens anytime we have more complicated assemblies (mine now was upwards of 3363 components).

Inventor is never truly stress-tested the way it should, so this is how it goes:
1- DWFs fail to be opened in Design Review, for more complicated assemblies, so we run to Navisworks to create an NWD of the model;
2- If the assembly is VERY complicated, Navisworks Manage is useless to open the IAM, so we need to spoon-feed it a DWF, then generate an NWD;
3- For the largest and most complex assemblies (very rare), even the DWF cannot be generated or there is no guarantee #2 above will work.
