Is there a way to export the model to FBX through the Navisworks API? I can only find the ActiveDocument.ExportAsDwf method. Will it be available in the future? I would really need this!

Markus
Hi,
Unfortunately, API for FBX is not available. We have not an information if we would provide it in the future. Sorry if this is a bad news for you.

Hi there,
Revamping an old thread... but just to know if there are any (good...) news on this request.
As the last update was from 3 years ago, and as FBX is more and more a de-facto standard interchange format, can you please update on if and when this feature will be exposed in the API?
Thanks,
Luca
Sorry to insist on this... but am I the only one here under the impression that no question concerning FBX is considered?
there are 3 open threads at least; this one and:
- link-between-an-object-in-fbx-file-and-the-original-modelitem
- how-to-keep-the-user-defined-properties-when-exporting-fbx-file
As I was pointing out in a previous messages, FBX is now a de-facto standard, so I guess that it's not just me trying to use to exchange data between NW and other systems.
If the current version of the plugin is not updated and nobody can provide help on it, is there at least a chance to get the source code of the FBX plugin? This would at least allow people to extend/fix it as needed, sharing the improvements back to this community.
Thanks,
Luca
For everyone's reference @xiaodong_liang has worked out how to call the FBX export via the Navisworks API. See the below blog post that outlines how to do it.
http://adndevblog.typepad.com/aec/2017/03/navisworks-api-export-model-or-model-items-to-fbx-.html
Thanks, that helps. However it is more a workaround than a real solution... this assumes that the list of input arguments to Execute() just takes the target output filename, but this is not documented anywhere... and if this plugin interface changes in the future we're in troubles again.
Thanks anyway!
Luca
