How do I open Navisworks files in PDMS

Hi,

I am using both Navisworks and PDMS for plant design. How do I export my Navisworks .nwd file so that I can read and edit it within PDMS (AVEVA)?

Regards,

Chris

hi,

To import data into pdms you do NOT want to use the nwd format as your starting point. Nwd is already converted from a original data source and every time you convert something you lose some information/introduce errors. Normally you would look at the attributes of the nwd where it says "source file" to determine what the data source was and then ask the creator to provide this file and then attempt to import that into pdms.

If for some reason the creator of the data source only wants to provide you with a nwd - it is a clear sign that the creator does not want to share the full data with you (they only want you to view the data) and you are not supposed to try and "steal" the data by using nwd's as data source.

If you still want to use nwd's as the data source you would save the nwd as fbx or dwf from within Navisworks and then use the fbx or dwf as a starting point for converting that into to something which can be imported into pdms. The company Norconsult Informationssystems sells converters/ services for this purpose

Not to mention, PDMS has a rather unique database structure.  Getting objects from other programs, like AutoPLANT, Plant3D, or ProStructures into an intelligent PDMS model isn't a straightforward "import" operation.
