Stencil strength issue

I have a face and use a stencil image for the wrinkles.

when transfering the wrinkle info, it adds too much height to current mass of the face.

I just want the detail to pass (a little height is ok).

how do I go about solving them issue.

First make sure your stencil is black/white (alpha map) for good results
Two
Try to use (sculpt / wax) brush or something like that
With lower density or different falloff brush
You must get experience with those tools and setting
