Sculpting will not work at small tool scale issue

Hello.

Mudbox 2017

I looked this up and found a couple of people having the same issue but have not found a solution yet.  I'm a bit new to mudbox so any help is appreciated.

I have  stone pillar I've built in Maya and Export>send to Mudbox. I'm working in Inches.  Silly imperial system.

When I import into Mudbox and get my sculpting tool going and set it to somewhere around 1 it stops working.  I have to scale it larger for it to stop working.  I'm stumped.

Thanks.

How dense is your mesh? Have you subdivided it? If your brush is smaller than a face on your mesh, you will have problems. Can you turn on Display -> Wireframe and post a screen grab that includes your brush and your brush settings?

Thanks!

Hi Jill.

My Mesh looks fine.  Polygons are all quadrangles.  Form was originally build in Maya and then sent to Mudbox.

My tool cursor is about 4 times the size of my smallest mesh quad/polys.

Attached is a screen grad.  Also, a new problem has arisen where parts of my model start disappearing when I zoom in tight.  I thought I would change this by adjusting the camera near plane to something like .001 but that didn't fix anything.

Any help is appreciated.  Thanks.

Ok.  I at least figured out the disappearing object issue.  I had "orthographic" turned on in my camera view.  I turned that off and I'm a bit back to normal except for being able to sculpt at a small level.

Sorry. I just noticed my screen grabs did not upload.

Here they are again.

Notice that in Example A with my brush size set to 1.96 if I drew a simple sculpt line across my object it distorts just fine.

I undid that stroke and you'll notice in

Example B... with my brush size set to 1 and I draw a stroke across my surface, nothing happens.  If I set it to anything over 1 it will work but one or below, nothing.  Even if I set my strength up to sometime ridiculous like 20,000

Again, any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Is this something we could easily recreate from scratch? If so could you please send us the steps? Or if it is not could you please share the scene? (maybe the maya scene you imported to mudbox is enough to share?)

Sure thing.

Attached is both my MUD(it's been zipped so I can upload it)  and MAYA files.  Again the object originated in Maya and then File>send to mudbox direct from maya.

Anytime I lower my brush size to less than 1 regardless of my strength it will not work.

Thanks.

Hi,

Just duplicated this problem on a project i'm working on.

as soon as brush size is 1.00, sculpt no longer registers.

1.01 works.
