What kind of video card do you have? I would say that this is very likely an issue with the video card driver.

Hi:

Your problem is probably due you have accidentaly hit the key shorcut Ctrl+L. That diseable the ligthing to take a look at the sillhouette of your sculpt, like an tipical composition technique.

Press Ctrl+L again or go to Display> and there activate Ligthing:

I'm afraid your graphics card is not on the supported hardware list. See https://knowledge.autodesk.com/sites/default/files/HardwareCertificationResults_Maya2018_v01a.pdf

one option if to try a cintiq tablet display..

you can get pen only 13HD ones on ebay used for not too much.. or new 13 or 16 all the way up to 27 new.

some of the 13 / 16 /24/27s also do touch..

I don't know if the case is the same in yours, but I get same problem when I sent mesh with texture from 3DS max and the texture was in PSD format. Assigning new material and adding texture separately helped. It might be your GPU though. However, maybe someone else will find this tip useful.
