MudKit 2025 is Now Ready - Now Available for Linux

This release of MudKit (Version 2025) introduces the following new features and improvements:

New Version Naming Convention

The naming convention now used for MudKit will be aligned with the Mudbox version for which it was designed.  This release is designed for Mudbox 2025.  Consequently, the version is named MudKit 2025.  Please note, however, that this version is compatible with earlier versions of Mudbox (i.e.,  2022-2025).  This compatibility is due to that fact that the Mudbox API and system requirements have not changed very much since the 2022 version.  If either of these change in the future, the compatibility with earlier versions may not be possible.

Linux Support

MudKit is now available on Linux.  MudKit was compiled and tested for Mudbox 2025 on Rocky Linux 9.4   Additionally, it was tested in Mudbox 2022 on Ubuntu 22.04.  I was unable to install any newer version of Mudbox on Ubuntu, as the newer Autodesk Licensing requirements were not compatible.  If anyone can provide instructions on how to install newer versions of Mudbox on Ubuntu, I would be happy to test those as well.

DynaTools - Density Levels

The available density levels for DynaTools were increased from 7 to 10 levels.  These extra levels provide a significant increase in mesh density.  As an example, consider the basic sphere.  At level 7, DynaSkin produces 8,958,214 faces.  At level 10, DynaSkin produces 24,883,718.  In this case, level 10 represents an increase in mesh density of approximately 2.8 times over level 7.

Curve Sweep - Even Distribution Option

The Curve Sweep tool now offers an option to evenly distribute the swept geometry, rather than distributing based on curve point position.  As well, the distribution density can be increased or decreased within a controlled range.  The even distribution option is on by default.  Although, you can elect to use curve points for distribution, instead.

Curve Sweep - Tapering

The Curve Sweep tool now offers tapering functionality.  In this release, there are 10 available tapering stops that allow you to specify the position of the stop along the curve and the radius multiple to use at that stop.  Additionally, you can opt to use Catmull-Rom smoothing on your tapered curve sweep.

Single Plugin File

For each operating system (Windows, Mac and Linux), the MudKit plugin is now a single file that can be saved in the standard Mudbox plugin directory locations.  Previously, the Windows version of MudKit had to be installed in a custom plugin directory, as it required several additional supporting files.  The Windows version of this release is a single file and does not require a custom plugin directory.

MudKit is a plugin for Autodesk Mudbox that provides a collection of tools that are currently missing in Mudbox.

And, best of all...

MudKit is Free!
