Disappearing CAD files

Has anyone had an issue with cad files not carrying over when you duplicate a study.

I am running 2021 and have had this happen multiple random times. For example, you import a cad model, mesh it and run an analysis(CFPW). Then duplicate the study, make a process change, and re-run the analysis. After it runs, I try to export the "warped shape" and get the message that "the source cad file is needed to support exporting the warp geometry". When I check in the layers pane under CAD Geometry there is no more cad model?

Not sure what is going on. I export warp shapes many times and understand that the native cad has to be there in order for moldflow to export a warped cad model.

I have tried to recreate the issue with a " simple test model" but no success.

Very random?

Anyone seen this before?

Hi @Adam.Mayes,

There may be following reason

  • you might be working with older version of mold flow software
  • you might be working with study files created with older version of mold flow and opening new latest release software  as CAD kernel is not backward compatible.
  •  you might have received following error /warning while opening project or study in Autodesk mold flow & you might have accepted to continue
  • madhukeshwart_0-1634911600446.png
  • This can be caused by a license issue if using a Moldflow older release.
  • If Design Link was incorporated in  Synergy installations, and uses the Synergy license to work. It may not create such issue.

  • As per autodesk, Typically this message occurs when a study is modeled by using CAD body in a new major release (for example Moldflow Insight 2019) , and then when opening the study in a previous major release (for example Moldflow Insight 2018). If there has been a change in CAD kernel between the two releases, this error message will occur.

Selecting the option to, "Create Copy", will enable access to editing the mesh/set-up and reviewing results (if attached). This removes the CAD body, as that release is unable to read the translated model.

Hello Madhukeshwart,

Thanks for the response, these are all valid reasons for the problem, however this has happened with a new model created in the latest version of the software and simply duplicated to run another study. The above message is what pops up when trying to export the warped geometry.

Thanks again for your input on this!
