Hi All!

I just looking for tips or best practices for Import a Catia V5 catpart to Moldflow Insight?

Currently we are just converting to STEP file.

Hi Lorena,

Autodesk Moldflow version 2018 or above can directly import CATPART.

if not then try with IGES file.

Hi Lorena,

I normally have this order of geometry import:

1) CAD native format
i.e. Catia V5 CATpart/CATproduct or other.
Using CAD native format is usually working well.
Nothing special in settings.

2) STEP
- When CAD native format is not supported.
- Sometimes there is a mismatch of supported release in Moldflow vs used CAD system release and STEP
is not release sensitive in that sense

- Problem with CAD native format, or geometry issues:
Geometry does not import, meshing fails, meshing fallback to tessellation, the mesh quality is low
Have seen model where CAD native import failed in import or meshing, but when converted to STEP then imported to Moldflow works and meshing is fine.

3) IGES
- mainly for lines/curves

4) STL
- last resort...

Hope this helps.

Berndt
