Constraints for Core Contact

Constraints for Core Contact

When working with cores that contact each other it would be nice to have a way to assign some type of constraint/connection to the specific nodes where the cores come in contact. These connections would allow the core shift movement and forces from one core to be applied to the other. This would allow for more accurate prediction on situations when cores contact each other.

These are a couple quick examples of types of situations that this would apply to.

This is definitely a feature I would like to see. We have a variety of parts with mating slide cores, most often pins with matching male/female locating pilots. Being able to accurately model core shift through that contact interface would be a big help.

This absolutely should be in Moldflow and has been a major issue for me in the past.

Its such a fundamental part of tool making to use touch cores, i truly don't understand in Moldflow 30+ years why it hasnt been sorted out yet.

You would think that with autodesk having access to Mechanical FEA where contact surfaces can be identified and the software knows these area cannot be penetrated that they would incorporate into moldflow.

Lets have this on the next update of moldflow insight, we are paying enough each year for maintenance!!

Yes, I also suggest & support. I came to know this thread after creating a post in the Forum for similar requirement.

In the Moldflow 2024 release we now automatically create a fixed contact between two cores (when cores touch at the start of the analysis).

More core-to-core scenarios exist that are not covered in Moldflow 2024 (e.g. core-to-core contact is created during a mold filling OR contact that can be broken, or contact with friction coefficients), but I believe this covers the essence  of this request.
