Cooling Channel Import Error

Hello all,

I am a new user of Moldflow Adviser 2016 Ultimate . When I tried to import cooling channel .igs file for my model, it is showing me "No cooling Channel found in the imported file". I don't know why this is happening. I would highly appreciate your recommendations.

Hello All,

According to the forum post in this link (http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/moldflow-adviser/esport-problem-from-solidworks/m-p/4959282/highlight/... I have tried to create simple cooling channel centrelines in Solidworks, export in to IGES formate and import in Moldflow Adviser. But it is still showing me the error "No cooling System found in imported file".

I don't know what I have did wrong. Anybody please help me in this regard. I badly need this...

Hi,

it might be so that the curve entity is not recognized.

What if you check "IGES wireframe" to use B-splines 126 when exporting?

And check"Export 3D curves" too?

Make sure the center line is not a construction line.

This could affect the output to IGES.

Thanks for your feedback. I have tried with checking "IGES wireframe" to use B-splines 126 and "Export 3D curves". But it is giving me again same error.

There are different options available in SolidWorks for export. I have tried different ones but got same error. I am not sure what would be the sitable combinations for exporting.

Hi Md,

this sounds really strange.

From my experience using Trimmed Surface type 144 , and B-splines type 126 normally works okay.

I have not tried from Solid Works though.

Is the curve on a sketch plane?

Could you have only curves in CAD model to export to IGES?

Would it be okay for you to upload an IGES file with the curves and I could have a look on my side?

I have tried for both ways, 1. keeping the curve on sketch plane 2. keeping the curve in CAD model.  Still it doesn't work .

Forum post thread doesn't except IGS file attachment. So, I have uploaded all the files here (both test part file and igs) in google drive.

thanks for the files.

I could repeat the issue in Adviser cooling line import.

Read "Test cooling line.IGS" in to Inventor, where I got the lines/curves and exported as IGES.

(Could not read the .sldprt, seems to be empty when I try to import it)

Then I got an IGES-file, I could import Adviser.

The IGES-files looks different compared to yours.

It is exported as 3D sketch from Inventor.

Attach IGES file: "Test cooling line ip s.igs" in zip-file

Hi MD,

Add a compare of IGES files in Notepad++:

Solidworks uses 2DSKETCH and Inventor 3DSketch...

It seems according to on-line help: Importing IGES model files that the 2Dsketch should work.

As it does not, it should be rasied to Autodesk Technical Support and the development team to review, I think.

Maybe you could try to export the 2D sketch as 3D sketch to IGES format?

Hi Berndt,

Thanks for your feedback. Finally, I have been successful by creating 3D sketch in Solidworks and export it in IGES. I don't know either why 2D sketch didn't work although it should be. How do I can raise issues to Autodesk Technical support ? I have student version of Moldflow. In my account, I don't have access to technical support case.

That will help others too.

Right, with a student version you can probably not rasie this through Autodesk Account, and technical support request.

If you have a Contract Manager or Software Coordinator around, they should be able to do it.
