Meshmixer Crashes

When I select the export to Meshmixer option under the save as STL menu Fusion will launch Meshmixer, Meshmixer will open and the part will appear in the build area but then I get a Windows notification that Meshmixer has crashed.  Tried this several times. Close Fusion and relaunched, same results.  Windows 8.1 system, fresh install of Meshmixer.

Hi,

I can't get mesh mixer to crash on amy of my models or the samples so this could be design specific. Can you export the design and send a fusion archive to me and I'll take a look.

Thanks,

Bankim

Do you have version 2.8? Looks like the team updated the utility on Jan 30, 2015 - get it here and see if it fixes the issue: http://meshmixer.com/download.html

Try unchecking “collect usage data” in the help dialog (before meshmixer crashes):
http://meshmixer.com/forum/index.php?topic=1848.msg4318#msg4318

If that doesn't solve it, you can run the appropriate utility below to update your graphics card:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/
http://support.amd.com/en-us/download

Here is some more troubleshooting help:

Hope it helps,

Bankim - I do not believe the problem is related to the model.  I launched Meshmixer and tried to import other STL files I have on my local store and it crashed with just a few seconds of loading the model.  The model loads, I see the image of the model in the workspace and then Meshmixer posts a dialogue box apologizing for the crash.

Keqingsong - I have version 10.8.126.  Just installed for the first time last evening.  Downloaded a second time directly from the Meshmixer site and re-installed to make sure I did not have some sort of file corruption.  No change.

CPRAMUK - Thanks for the guidance.  Tried each option given on the MM FAQ page, no joy.  My video drivers are update to date and I Windows 8.1 just updated this evening so I have had crashes before and after the update.

Here is a screen shot of the message I get from MM and Windows after the crash.  Mind you the crash occurs within seconds of importing an STL file.

Hi,

Could you send me the stl file so that we can forward it to the appropriate people. kattetgATautodesk.com

Thanks

Gautham - as I have stated, MM crashes with any STL file I try to import so I doubt its model specific.  These STL were all exported out of Fusion 360.  I tried to attach the STL file for the first part that caused the crash but the the Fusion message board gives the following error message; "The contents of the attachment doesn't match its file type."

Hi Rick,

I did not notice your comment that the crash happens for any stl file, sorry about that.  However, I noticed that your machine is a Windows 8.1.  I tested Meshmixer on that OS, with an STL file saved from Fusion360 and I dont see any crashes.  We will try digging a bit deeper into this.

Thanks

Gautham

Can you try to

1. launch meshmixer standalone (not from fusion).

2. insert the sphere.

3. From the menu, go to the about box. (help...about)

4. At the bottom of the about box, uncheck "collect usage data"

5. close meshmixer.

6. retry your workflow from Fusion.

Crashes immediately after the sphere loads.

Have you tried loading an older version of MeshMixer from (e.g. version 2.0) from the Meshmixer website to see if it helps with the crashing? This suggestion helped me in a past instance.

You may also consider posting this issue in the Troubleshooting Forum for MeshMixer.

http://meshmixer.com/forum/index.php?board=5.0

I noted that one recommendation was to update the graphics drivers. You may also want to try that if you haven't done so recently.

I hope that helps!

Thanks,

Hi Rick,

I spoke to the Meshmixer team about this issue. They are aware of random crashes in the latest version and have fixed it, but they cannot release it at this time.  But to get you going, you could try downloading an older version of Meshmixer, version 2.6 from this site: http://meshmixer.com/download.html.  Naturally, it will not have some of the new enhancements found in a more recent version, but it could serve your needs at this time.  Let us know if not and we can try other things.

Thanks

Gautham - I will wait until Meshmixer sorts out their mix-up 😉  I am very happy with my current slicer/model prep tool (Simplify3D) but thought I would give the Autodesk product a try.  Tech support from the Meshmixer teams looks sparse based on my observations while scrolling through their forum pages.  Hopefully Fusion will add additive manufacturing functionality to its CAM suite in the near future.

Yes I am having a similar problem with Meshmixer. It originally would crash a lot, so I stopped using it. A few days ago however, I started using it again, and it worked fine. However, as soon as I imported a part into my project that I had downloaded from a project of mine on Tinkercad, Meshmixer repeatedly crashed. Now I can't even open the app without it crashing even without opening a project. Meshmixer is temporarily unusable for me. I have Meshmixer version 11.0.544 for Mac.

Hi,

This version of Meshmixer works fine for me on the Mac.  Could you let me know what steps you followed before it resulted in a crash.  Does it crash when you open Meshmixer application even without importing any models?

Thanks
Gautham

If it was working, and then stopped, chances are something became corrupted on your machine (the autosave file for example)

Please try deleting ~/.config/Autodesk/meshmixer.ini, this works in the majority of cases

Our beta versions have quite a few startup-crash issues resolved, available here: http://meshmixer.com/beta.html

In particular we have fixed quite a few of the network-related startup problems.

But it won't help if you have a corrupted .ini file

So it's a problem with a corrupted file on the app itself? Do I need to just delete something? All I did before was open up a new sphere shape, sculpted it a bit, and then imported some custom shapes I had downloaded off of Tinkercad into the design. Since then I cannot even open the app without it crashing.
