Measuring volume on parts of a 3D scanned image

Hi there, I am a scientist with limited experience using meshmixer, looking to measure the volume of a coral juvenile on a 3D scanned image. Is there a simple way to remove the background or just select a part of this image to measure its volume? The coral are the "bumps" in the screenshot and I have highlighted one of interest. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Select the area of interest:

Hit Y to Separate this area to a separate object and leave SELECT mode:

Hide the "background surface object" via eye icon in ObjectBrowser and run ANALYSIS/Inspector to get a watertight object. Hit AutoRepairAll to close the open boundary:

Run ANALYSIS/Stability to get the volume, surface area and the coordinates of the center of mass. If the source mesh's unit is a small one (e.g. mm) and the volume is big the number might be exponential. In this case you might want to change the unit (e.g. cm instead of mm) via ANALYSIS/UnitsDimensions first.
