Question about aligning 2 shells

Hello MM Users,

i would need help again.

I have 2 scans of a finger (upper shell and lower shell)

I would need to align them exact and combine them as one object.

I could do that using the transfer tool but it takes time to shift the parts until they fit together exact.

Is there a way to set some marking points and tell meshmixer to align it together ?

Thanks for help 🙂

There's no point-pairs alignment in MM but there's selection based alignment in SELECT/Edit/AlignToTarget.

Let's say you want to align MeshB to fit to MeshA:

With MeshA active click the magnet in ObjectsBrowser to make it a target object > it turns to transparent blue. For a better view you might disable TransparentTarget in the View menu.

Now use EDIT/Transform to move MeshB to a roughly fitting position.

Now SELECT some overlapping regions on MeshB and run Edit/AlignToTarget. Hit ImproveSolution until MeshB doesn't move any more.

Couldn't you drop a pivot on each object on the same anatomical spot, then align pivot to pivot. Then rotate about that pivot for fine tuned adjustments.

Hello Andrew,

i tried this but somehow it fails.

I did following steps:

> select shell A and drop the pivot (Settings: Surface point, Geometry frame, checkboxes disabled)

> select Shell B - same procedure

> with shell B active: edit / align (source + destination = pivot /  Translate only)

The alignment did not work and the pivot of the active shell was dislocated.

How to do it right ?

Thanks 🙂
