Error Importing .obj

I recieve an error while trying to import an .obj file without any explanation why.

The file is a 3d scan created with a Maptek SR3 scanner, processed in Maptek Point Studio.

We have tried a couple of different files now without any luck.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Can you load a default object from the splash screen (e.g. the bunny) - these are .obj files as well.

If yes:

  • Is your .obj a mesh or only a point cloud? MM accepts only meshes. You might check this opening the file in a text editor and search if there are lines starting with "f".  In case of just point coordinates you would need to build a mesh in some third party app (e.g. Meshlab).

If you are sure that it's a mesh:

  • what's its file size?
  • does it come with per vertex color?
  • what are the specs of your system?
  • what exactly happens when you try to load it to MM?

Thank you for the response. Turns out its as simple as the .obj file being a point cloud and not a mesh.
