Viewport 2.0 shadow artifacts

I'm not sure if this it a problem with MACs or if is my graphics card wich is an

AMD FirePro D500 3072 MB. But everytime I try to smooth any mesh using the hotkey 3, I get some strange atifacts all over the surface.

This only happens when I am at Viewport 2.0 with lights and shadows on.

Has anybody has this same problem, does anyone know how to solve it?

I have the exact same problem, and it's very annoying. I'm on a Mac Pro with dual D300 graphics cards.

I filed a bug report 7 months ago, but I've heard nothing back. Had the problem in Maya 2015 and hoped they would fix it in 2016... But it's still there!

I think it has something to do with the tesselation of objects. It gets worse when you subdivide your meshes, and nurbs will go crazy with artifacts if you up the resolution. Changing between Maya Catmull-Clark and OpenSubdiv Catmull-Clark makes the artifacts jump around, but does not remove them.

I've tried everything, it has nothing to do with camera clipping planes or other camera settings, nothing to do with depth map shadow settings (focus, filter, bias etc).

I sure hope Autodesk knows about this and are trying to fix it.

Yey! They've solved it in Maya 2016 SP2. Unfortunately I'm getting the "black screen" when selecting/deselecting stuff, but at least I can use shadows again.

On a Mac, how can I tell what service pack my Maya installation is?

My unsderstanding is that on Mac updates should be automatic so should have latest SP but still have this probelm.

No...on a Mac, updates are not automatic. To see which version you are on, click Maya->About Maya.
