Saving Colour Per Vertex Data As a Texture File

Hello!
As the title suggests, I'm trying to save colour per vertex data. When I tried googling how to do this I came across this troubleshooting page: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/maya/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Saving-co...
However, I can't seem to find the 'Color' menu items under the 'Polygons' shelf. Is there something I'm missing?
Using Maya 2017 the page says Nov 2014, so I'm guessing that the 'Color' option has moved but I haven't found anything else online.

Thanks for the help

Hey, thank you for the reply.
So the point attribute was exported from Houdini, so when I try to look export this is it just gives me an error. I can't see any maps or anything in the Hypershade with what I want. But I can visualize the point information in the viewport. Don't know if that information helps at all.

The point cloud has to be converted to a mesh, then Uvs have to be done so the backing process can be exported .
