Hi, i am learning maya and i'm interested in realistic architectural visualization. For now im working with Arnold but its simply to slow on my machine. I have no access to a render farm. I looked at Redshift but it relies on nvidia cuda and i have an amd card.

What renderer do you guys suggest for a starting freelancer/student?

My rig

Windows 10

Intel i7-6700@3.40GHz

16 Gig ram

AMD rx480 with 8 Gig video memory

Hows about we start with what you do have (Arnold can give good results), and see if we can get that running a bit better?  So what do you consider "too slow"?  What does the scene and final render look like - busy?  Simple?

Keep in mind that there is a practical lower limit on how fast things can render, regardless of optimizing.  Complex scenes rendered at high resolution will take some time to process, even if you can throw them at a render farm.

Thanks for your reply!

The following image took about three hours of rendering with Arnold. For a still image i think this is fine, but when i would like to make a animation, two to three hours rendering for one frame is just to much for me to work with.

Please post an Arnold log for the render. Verbosity level Warnings + Info is enough.

I didn't have the log from that render. But i have rendered out a work in progress scene for you.

So here is the final image and the log file. The render took 76 minutes.

I appreciate the help!

10 AA samples is too much. AA is a global multiplier for all the other sample settings, like Diffuse. You should lower AA and set the other samples as required.  Check out our Removing Noise tutorial: https://support.solidangle.com/x/LYNi

Also, I would upgrade to the latest Mtoa, available here: https://www.solidangle.com/arnold/download/

Thank you!

I updated to the new Mtoa version and changed the AA sampling from 10 to 3 and upped the diffuse samples. My render time went from 76 minutes to 17 minutes with minimal differences. Perfect!

You just made my day!
