Problem in using Render Proxy

error.jpg

Hello

I modelled a simple pot in Autodesk Maya 2015. Now I need to use pot multiple times in a scene. When I try to import it in my scene using Render Proxy the object goes missing. Attached image shows the following problem with the scene. Same render proxy file linked but render is not proper. Unable to understand why is this occurring.

Any assistance???

hi,

The output is still the same... 😞

not proper render. a single material has been applied to the object. Its a whole single mesh.

>freezed

>centered (0,0,0)

>history cleaned

>clean up done

yet its problematic

Just to check...did you check to see if your normal's are reversed...I know its a long shot...but I had an object before look like that...and some faces normal's were reversed.

You'll have to check the original object you made into a proxy.

What I do is turn off two sided lighting in the lighting tab of the viewport.....If the face facing you is black it will need to be reversed....When rendering reversed faces will not be visible....select the face and go to the polygon shelf and the normals tab and select reverse.

As per said I turned off the two sided lights and none of the faces have normals reversed...

while using render proxy does any changes to be made in render settings?? I mean final gathering or GI or render quality...

I tried to use proxy in new scene. Still the problem persists.

No settings need to be set...You're using mental ray correct?

Try this:

  1. Export your object as an OBJ file. (Make sure you have Materials enabled under the file type specific options.)
  2. Create a new scene.
  3. Import the OBJ file you just saved. Note: you may have to set the color for your Mia Material X again.
  4. Save the scene
  5. Export your object as a mental ray proxy
  6. Open a new scene and follow the instructions as per @damaggio 's post.

Not sure why this works, but it did for me when I tried it on your scene.

Didn't have any issues with the file, Windows 7 Maya 2016 SP6.

Okay...I figured out an easier way to fix your file. Go into your Maya preferences and in the Settings section, change the working units to centimeter...then re-export your Mental Ray proxy file.

(Your file has the units set to inch, and I think that's what is causing the strange renders.)

Thanks a lot... the issue is solved.

The unit in inches was making the error. Now its all good. Finally a step forward . have a nice day ahead 🙂
