Please change Hypershade node highlighting

Hi,

I am losing my mind because material nodes are displaying with a red outline even when they are not in Solo mode. The red highlighting indicates which node is being sent to the Material Viewer. Any time a connected node is selected, the material node lights up in red.

It's a very bad design. The red highlighting makes it look like the node is selected. Even when I deselect the connected node, the material node of the last selected node continues to light up as if it is in Solo mode.

Red highlighting should only appear if the highlighted node is in Solo mode. Anything else is completely crazy-making.

In my case, I don't even use the Material Viewer. I am rendering in Arnold, so the Material Viewer is not helpful. Hardware preview rendering is inaccurate, Arnold preview rendering is super slow, eats CPU, and doesn't work while any other window is rendering Arnold.

I suggest finding some other method to indicate which node is being displayed in the Material Viewer. At least change the highlighting color to something other than bright red. It really does look like that red highlighting indicates selection. The "preview" highlighting should not be brighter and more intense than the selection highlighting.

And if the Material Viewer isn't even running, the whole concept of indicating which node is displayed in the Material Viewer is completely flawed. If Material Viewer is hidden, there should be no indicator of which node is displayed in the non-existent Material Viewer.

Thank you

Aaron

Hi @aaronfross

Thanks for posting! I think you bring up some valid points 🙂 The best way to get this perspective heard would be to post this same information on our Maya Idea Station. There, you and other Maya users can vote for improvement ideas or feature requests. Our development team regularly reviews these ideas and will solicit further feedback if necessary.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help make sure your voice is heard! If you do have time to post there, feel free to share the Idea link on this thread and I will vote for it!

Thanks again!

Hi @aaronfross

Happy Friday! 🙂 I hope you are doing well. I wanted to check in and see if you had any follow up questions for me. Did you have a chance to post on our Idea Station? Any issues there?

If you have been able to post and feel that this thread has been resolved, please mark the solution as such so that others can find the answer quickly 🙂

Thanks again for being a part of our community!

I did post it to the Ideas forum

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/maya-ideas/please-change-hypershade-node-highlighting/idi-p/8863624

When I went to check on it to find the link for you, I couldn't find my post... the default listing is "Hot Ideas" rather than "Most Recent Ideas". I suggest this be changed. Who decides what is "Hot"? Is it purely algorithmic? Who designs the algorithm?

When I go to a forum, I expect that the posts will be listed in reverse chronological order, not in some arbitrary order based on a mysterious algorithm. I do not expect that my post will be hidden from view.

How on Earth are users supposed to know what posts exist if they are only shown the "Hot" posts by default? Doesn't anyone realize that this system is antidemocratic and goes against the entire concept of voting? Promoting "Hot" posts actively censors all posts that are not considered "Hot". This creates an information deficit, meaning that voters are operating with faulty data.

Please forward this message to the people who make policy for the Autodesk forums. "Hot" posts should not be the default. "Most Recent" should be the default. Anything else is inherently unfair.
