No Cast Shadows in Maya 2016 (student)

Legit, I've been doing very well exploring this program but the lighting is going to be the death of me.

I cannot get any type of cast shadows what so ever. I can't find the option for Raytracing Quality anywhere.

here's what i have os far. All shadows are checked, use raytracing shadows are checked, still nothing. Please help me! Screen Shot 2016-07-10 at 6.44.30 PM.png

You are looking at the viewport , the render should be coming out just fine, to see shadows in viewport look in the panel bar Lighting and enable shadow and press 7

And always look at the render, don't go much by what you see in the viewport, the technology is not quite there yet... Use the IPR function

Hey! thanks for the reply! but even in the render view, there are no shadows. When I save the render, there still are no shadows!

Okay , lets try this for rendering Render Settings>Quality make sure first box is checked"Show advanced settings"  scroll down to Legacy options and see if Raytracing is enabled , and back near the top Advanced lighting Sampling enable Final Gathering.

For viewport shadow watch Darrl's video

Please use Mental ray for rendering your scene...let me know how it goes...good luck.

If you were using Maya software the raytracing option is under Raytracing quality, you can use Maya to render but is not a professional quality renderer and has many limitations.
