Need help creating a specific material for a character

Hello,

I’ve been working on a version of the TiVo mascot character and can’t seem to figure out what renderer and shader I should use for his screen/body. Someone else here told me to stick with a black Arnold shader, but that didn’t quite cut it. Then I tried a black ramp shader, and that too wasn’t right.

Here are many pictures of the character:

Are those renders of your version? Or are those images of what the shader should look like?

I assume its more a lighting issue than the shader.

That is just a black Arnold shader , lower your roughness to match more or less the reference images, the rest is in the lighting set up. There’s no need for any ramp Bryce. You can also start with a Plastic preset.

No, they're what my final version should look like.

Yes, you are using Arnold.

For lighting go watch some tutorials on YouTube about Arnold skydome and HDR images.

It's essential to understand this basic workflow.
