Mental Ray not working Maya 2016 Ext 1 SP6

Mental Ray is not working for me in Ext 1 SP6.

It processes the render for a while then shows a black screen. No alpha or anything.

I have installed and reinstalled countless times. 

I have downloaded from this page;

Mental ray is working in my copy of Ext 2. But our entire workflow, render setup is on Ext 1. need it to work there.

<rant> this software costs thousands, and the only help i can hope for comes from this community. Support emails take two days and will just direct me to the pages above. Autodesk has got way too big for it's own good</rant>

The plugin version of the mental ray installed is: 2016.0 - 3.13.1.2

The mental ray version in your first link is not the right one. You want the one at the bottom of this page.
