Maya scene object missing in render and render view not working

Hi everyone I'm hoping someone might be able to help with a dilemma I'm having...I'm doing my first 3d animation for a project for university using the norman character rig in Maya 2016.. the problem I'm having is the shot that your seeing in the screenshot renders fine with the exception that the sword disappears entirely in the render view and I don't know why... I am rendering in mental ray..it looks fine when I render in Maya software but I lose some of the shadows and the scabbard goes missing but the blade stays in the scene so ideally, I'd like to render with mental ray...since posting this problem on other forums now my render view window opens stays loading on the white screen then Maya just stops working and shuts down I dont know if its what in my scene or if its the lighting or materials in the scene.....any help or advice would be appreciated as I need a solution before friday 8th December ideally sword dissapearing.JPG

Hi!

Please upload a scene-file (no other way for "fast" help).

(If there are not much texture you might upload the project including texture images)

I have attached the scene file the only textures are in the sword and scabbard everything else has not been changed.

Please excuse the files naming I messed up there.

Hi!

1. I don't have problems rendering the scene inside Maya 2016.5 (Extension 2), no crash.

2. Mental Ray hides the sword cause there are overrides in the hierarchy above.

In "Monologue_Animation_0004_0036:Norman_Rig_01:jntRig_Root":

Drawing Overrides -> Enable Overrides ("disable")

Keep care of such hierarchy effects.

I did like mentioned and unchecked the enable override box and did a batch render on that frame and the sword and scabbard are now appearing THANK YOU!!!!, what should I do to avoid this happening again as for this one I wanted the scabbard and sword to stay on his back and parenting it was the only way I could think of , I'm still having the problem of the render view not opening and just going white before Maya suddenly shuts down at this point if I want to check my renders I have to batch render the frame as I'm not sure if it my laptop that im using or the scene or maya Capture3 .JPGCapture2.JPG

Hi!

1. There is Constraint -> Parent which can be toggled/animated on and off ("1", "0")

2. " I'm not sure if it my laptop that im using or the scene or maya"

Then check this first, render the scene on an other computer or render a new scene on your laptop.

Make sure your Maya and Mental Ray version use the exact same Service Pack version or it will not work.

3. Try a reset of your preferences.
Rename the folder prefs in folder 2018 to something like prefs_backup, or to reset everything, the folder 2018 to 2018_backup (or even the maya folder to maya_backup). Maya creates new folders (don't copy preferences from previous Maya versions). Detailed at:
