Hi!

This is the file node and has nothing to do with aiStanadardSurface.

Could you please provide a step by step instruction how you created this file node without connection to Color Management?

As a solution, create a new file node (Color Management in Preferences has to be enabled).

thank you for the reply

I have a bitmap .tiff file roughness map. I dragged it into the hypershade and with an aiStandardSurface I dragged the roughness into the specular roughness of the standard surface. By selecting the roughness I wanted to change it to raw.

thanks again

Hi!

Sorry it's not clear when it breaks (here on windows it works).

1. You drag and drop a tiff file from OS into hypershade

Is Color Space working now or not?

2. You drag texture node onto Roughness Attribute of aiStandardSurface.

Color Space is not working anymore?

in the attached images.

roughness node connection deleted - you can see I can use raw

roughness node placed into standard surface roughness - color management off shows and is grayed out

I am doing nothing else just delete connection - see the raw available - add connection - grayed out

thank you

Hi!

That's interesting.

Please upload a scene-file where the texture is connected to roughness and color management is off for the texture node. (You can remove some or all meshes from the scene as i only need the materials)

here is a screencast http://autode.sk/2iuInLx

the file is attached its only small and is only being used for learning

I am trying to learn Maya and Substance Painter. In this exercise I am taking the output from SP into Maya to set up for rendering with Arnold.

All of the set up in hypershade is for this and I took the bitmaps and connected to an aiStandardShader for this reason

Ok so if I delete the roughness from specular on the standard surface and then instead of dragging into the hypershade I add via the standard shader attributes then it works and I can select raw.

If I drag directly in to the hypershade it doesn't work (maybe a bug?)

Should I set my metalness map to Raw?

thank you

Hi!

Thanks for the screencast

This looks like a bug.

Please update your Maya version up to Maya 2018 update1 there was a fix in this area.

If this doesn't solve the problem

1. Please report this problem (bug?) to Autodesk: Help -> Speak Back -> Report a Problem.

2. Try to create the file-node inside Maya and then assign the texture there and prevent drag'n drop (i doubt this helps but it's worth a try).

thank you

creating a file node directly in the hypershade has the same issue

The only way it works is to add via standard surface attributes

I am new to this.

Should I change my metalness map to Raw as well?

thank you

Hi!

"Should I change my metalness map to Raw as well?"

If a texture should be set to "RAW" or "sRGB" is dependent on the texture itself and not on the Attribute where it will be connected to.

In most cases you would need "sRGB". Linear files like an EXR image or a Normal Map would need "RAW".

If you use Substance Painter, check there if your created texture files are linear or not.

Had the same issue!!! I don't know what causes it but there is an easy fix.

1.Create a new Maya scene.

2.Create a poly cube in the scene.

3.Assign AiStandardMaterial to cube.

4.Plugin your maps. Try Metalness first, the drop down option Color Space should now be available. Your Color map should be sRGB, your Metalness, Roughness and Normal should be set to Raw and under color balance drop down menu switch on Alpha is luminance.

5.Import your model into this scene and assign the material you created for the cube.

Hopefully this will work for you like it did for me.

If you uncheck Color Management in your Maya preferences you won't be able to change your color management in Texture...I know that sounds a bit dumb

This happened to me for the first time today. The fix was indeed that this file had color management turned off. I have no idea how, as it was absolutely on for the rest of the files.

However, this file came from another shop, so it must have been off there, and carried over when I opened this scene.

So weird, but thank you for the quick fix!

YES ! that worked. However I'd be curious to know- are these preferences saved in the existing project file or Maya will apply them to all future project or scene files?
