master Layer keep getting rendered while disabled

Hi all,

Running Maya 2018.2 on Windows 10. Set up couple render layers through the Render Setup system. Pretty sure the master layer (where it says Scene) is NOT enabled for batch render. Kick off batch render through Maya batch render or Deadline submission, I kept getting master layer rendered. Is this expected behavior or a bug or I simply miss something.

Hi!

What renderer do you use?

With Arnold it works here correct.

Hey,

I just noticed this happening too. I also just upgraded V-Ray to the .03 patch from .02. Also using Windows 10, and fully patched Maya 2018. That said, I really haven't used the Layers feature in a long while (I usually rely on material ID passes in a single layer, but my current project needs a layered setup), so I can't verify it wasn't behaving like that for awhile. Have you contacted Chaos Group yet to submit a ticket on their end? If you did, please post your case number here so when I submit a ticket there, we can hopefully raise its visibility. Let me know if you've done the same with Autodesk and have a case number there too and I can reference it as well. The more of us that reference the same case may help escalate the issue, if it is an issue and not just us missing something obvious. 🙂

Update for me:

Got it working. One of my slaves wasn't updated properly. I reinstalled the client on all slaves just to be sure and made certain that previous versions were removed. I think there may have been a conflict. Don't know if this will work for you, but it worked for me. It didn't seem like it would be a V-Ray issue to me initially, To be safe, I started with fresh Maya prefs too. Might just have been the prefs. Try that first if you haven't already.

Best of luck,

-s

I just ran into this as well.  I went ahead and deleted my prefs before doing any uninstalls/re-installs and that seemed to fix it.  Now I can render only the layers I want!

I solved this problem.

Check the legacy render layers

Turn render setup to ->  legacy render layers  (Windows - Preferences - Rendering)

Restart Maya.

Check Render layer. It will be a strange layer you don't use.

Delete. And turning back to render setup(Windows - Preferences - Rendering)

It's Done.
