Hi

Is there a way to have a light link between a light and a nurbs curve?

When i try to have an object centrict light link my curves don't show up

in the list.

Does anybody have an idea how to get this working?

Kind regards

Alexander

Hello Alexander,

To do that, you need to convert the curve to polygon. You do that by going to Paint Effects in the rendering tab, -> Curve Utilities -> Attach brush to curves.

Now, in your attribute editor, it created a brush tab. There you can modify the color (Shader) or the brush width (Brush Profile) etc. When you finish, go to Modify -> Convert -> Paint Effect to Polygons.

curves don´t render and don´t react to light at all so why should you be able to light link?

Well i'm using arnold to render the curves. And when lighting our shots (who 're using curves) we can't link them to any shading group since we can only assing a surface shader to it and not a shading engine.

ok i think that´s similar to when you assign a renderable attribute to a curve using vray. i guess the problem is that from mayas point of view it´s still just a curve. everything else gets created at rendertime.

if there is nothing arnold specific to gain more controle i think what @Cobra_2010 said would be the simplest solution. just in case you are not aware of it but unless you delete the history after converting the pfx to polys you still can modify the curve and the geo will follow.
