Light bleeding through objects

Hi Forum goers

I've been using maya for about a year now and have constantly been coming across this error when it comes to lighting my scenes.
Often when I have to objects next to each other (such as a room next to another room) light will bleed through multiple objects regardless of solidarity.

I've included pictures to help display what I'm talking about and I hope someone could help me with this issue. I'm willing to answer any questions that may help me out here.

Sincerely

A Struggling Student

Hi Struggling Student!

There are typically two reasons that come to my mind when I hear about "light bleeding" in mental ray. The first one is that shadow casting objects aren't taken into account because of shadow rays calculations. mental ray uses an offset to start shadow rays. But the light bleeding is too extreme for this one. The second reason is photon mapping, which has some issues that photons illuminate objects that they shouldn't. But still your images don't look like this issue.

Can you upload a scene file?
