Hi!

You need the same aspect ratio for Camera Aperture (width / height) and Render Resolution (width / height).

Hello !

You mean I need to match my Image Size & Camera Aperture ?

Is there an exact formula to match them precisely ?

In the Mastering Autodesk Maya book it says

To get the Image Aspect Ratio

Width / Height

1920 / 1080 = 1.78 Aspect Ratio

So for me to get the exact Film Gate or Camera Aperture is there a certain formula to Perfectly Match my Image Size & my Film Gate ?

Thank you again Mr. Marko Speer for your never ending help 🙂

Hi!

You already have the formula so i don't understand the problem!?

Width / Height = Aspect Ratio , or

Width / Aspect Ratio = Height, or

Height / Aspect Ratio = Width

???

I do have the formulas for those

but I would like to know on how to get the precise Camera Aperture Value to Match a 720 HD Resolution Gate

Or Do I just have to scroll my Film Aspect Ratio to match it without proper mathematical precision ?

I tried adjusting the Film Resolution Gate value to

1.78 and there's a line here that looks like it doesn't fit if looking from a far
This photo is just a scaled version so you can see the line I'm pointing at

1.png

This is Value 1.78 but at Full Screen view , it looks like that it fits the line but from a far it doesn't 2.png

Hi!

If you use a 16 / 9 ratio, then use 16 and 9 as values or 32 and 18.

So my values was correct ?

Was that just a glitch or bug  ?

Because those 2 different images have different results

1 it looks it fits the resolution the other is that it's slightly off ...

I Found a solution now

It's in the Mastering Autodesk Maya 2016 Book too

Page 750

"Ideally, you want the Film Gate and Resolution Gate to be the same size in the viewport. If
you turn on the display of both the Film Gate and the Resolution Gate in the camera’s Display
Options rollout (toward the bottom of the Attribute Editor—you can’t turn on both the Film
Gate and Resolution Gate using the icons in the panel menu bar), you may see that the Film Gate
appears to be larger than the Resolution Gate in the viewport; the gates are displayed as boxes.
You can fix this by adjusting the Film Aspect Ratio setting. Simply divide the resolution width
by the resolution height (1280 ÷ 720 = 1.777777), and put this value in the Film Aspect Ratio
setting under the Film Back rollout"

Thank you @mspeer !
