Hard Edge Light Leak

I have been creating a low poly landscape for my game using the harden edge tool in Maya 2016. However, When I import this model into Unity light shines through it (picture).

I know this is a problem with the model because I imported models that I had not hardened and I do not have this problem. I have no idea where to start to explore a solution for the problem as I am very much a beginner with Maya.

Using directional light
Export models as DAE_FBX
Only leaks on the edges

Any help would be greatly welcomed. Thank you!

Did you create a material for it in unity?

I created the material in Maya, which moved over to Unity. So I did not create the shader in Unity.

Create a material in unity. Then assign it.

Are you just using shaders and not textures?

I am using textures as well. I have the same problem with the texture or without the texture.

Also, I created a material in unity and attached it to the object. I am still having the light gap problem.

Could it be a problem with the settings within hard edges?

Try applying hard edges...I had that issue before and I can't remember how I fixed it.  It may have been applying hard edges in the normal tab.

Sorry, I do not quite follow. What do you mean by the normal tab?

In the upper left corner select polygon which will give you the polygon shelf.  In that shelf you will see the normal tab...in that drop down menu you will see hard edge...hit that....
