Ai Toon Shader - Ramp Interpolation Help Needed

Hello there!

I am using the Ai Toon shader and trying to make a more 'interesting' transition between my ramp tones of the Base Tonemap. I am following this guide which suggests that you can add a Texture to your Ramp colour "Selected Position" to create interesting transition effects:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/maya/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2019/ENU/Maya-Lig...

However, I am unable to achieve this control. My goal is produce a rake effect between Ramp[1] and Ramp [2] using a texture. Please see attached images for reference, and I have also attached the simple Maya scene.

Any help is appreciated, thank you!

The texture must reflect the necessary values. for example, range from 0.3 to 0.5. And the texture should be at the correct UV coordinates.

 something like this, I guess.

I really appreciate the suggestion, thank you! I gave it a try painting this shape along the desired UV area, AND controlled the values, and no luck. The behaviour of the colour boundary with textures, noise, fractal etc are all behaving the same way (creating straight rings around the sphere). This is a very different behaviour than the guide suggests below.

Umm, weird. He distributed each pixel in circles perpendicular to the light direction. I couldn't understand that logic. Probably another mapping is needed, idk.

Hi!

This will not work with the aiToon shader.

Tonemap only uses a 1-dimensional input for color correction, that's why it's recommended to use this with a ramp texture.

The article you linked is about the Ramp Shader, so please also use the Ramp Shader, if you want to achieve the same effect.
