I need to select the faces of one mesh that are contained within the volume of a primitive (cube or sphere) and write those faces to a set. I would like to avoid having to learn Bifrost just for this simple task, but open to all suggestions.
regards,
Cam.
If you don't have access to Bifrost, one way to solve this problem is by using MASH. MASH is a Maya plugin that allows you to generate complex motion graphics quickly. To select the faces inside a volume, you can create a MASH Distribute node and place a cube or sphere inside the volume. Then, set the MASH Distribute node to select the faces inside the volume. Finally, write those faces to a set. This should give you the desired result.
Thanks Alishah,
I appreciate the suggestion but since this is for plugging into a Yeti system I would also like to avoid MASH as well as Bifrost. This is not a complex problem, it should be achievable with mel or python. Max has a modifier that does it, Unity and Unreal can do it at 160fps, unsure why Maya doesn't have a built in solution.
