Does maya 2020 utilizes all 64 cores of the threadripper 3990x

Hello autodesk forum,

I may not be in the right board for this question, but i though this would be the closest one, i was searching for. So, Is Maya even programmed to utilize the threadripper 3990x with all its power. Can it use all 64cores and 128threads seamlesly or should i only consider using the threadripper with 32cores instead. Maya is used in my worklflow to build places and maps to be put into ue4 as a game enviroment.

Thanks,

Jonathan

Hi!

Without any render needs and a system primarily needed for game development I recommend to get the CPU with less cores. Most of of the time your applications would not make use of so many cores, especially when modeling, UV mapping and texturing.

Ok, thanks for your answer.
Would you say 32 cores is good and enough or even too much and maybe go with the 24 cores Version?

Hi!

I would suggest to get the 24 core version and to spend the saved money on something else (GPU, System RAM,...).

Yes of course. I got two last question. How much Ram do I need? I thought of 64Gb of Ram. But I could go up 256Gb Ram. I don't want to have any performance hit, because of not having enough ram. And talking about gpu I thought of dual Radeon 7 or maybe even quad Radeon 7. But I didn't find evidence that Maya could use the power of all 4 Gpus properly. Do you know how much gpus Maya can use? What would you recommend me?

Hi!

Maya itself can only use one GPU, so I recommend to get only one GPU.

64 GB RAM should be fine for now, but I would recommend to get at least 128 GB if you want to use the workstation for a longer time.
