Deformer Sets Become Uneditable an appear empty

So I have two deformers in parallel like in the image below. When they evaluate they behave with the deformerSet is still set up. But when I try to edit the deformer set of cluster 2 or 3, they show up and being empty. They're empty when using the edit deformerSet tools, the getAttr command, the MFnSet, and when testing in the node editor.

I have found some workarounds for editing the deformerSet but they all require rewiring the input/outputGeometry which isn't a very good solution, especially for non-technical users. I reported it as a bug to Autodesk but I wanted to see if anyone else had dealt with this problem before.

I'm working in 2020.3 but I tested in 2018 and it happens there as well
