Simulation and Animation

Hi,

i'm currently working on my MCS thesis and want to develop an AI System using Maya as "visualizer" (hopefully ending in some kind of crowd simulation thing)

To be sure in advance that everything I want to do is possible I need to know if Maya is able to define an animation state at runtime (of the simulation).

Is it possible to choose a frame of the clip of the character at each frame of the whole animation and even blend animations (on runtime)?

the simulation loop:

1. get all necessary information for the agent to decide what to do next
2. decide! (e.g. run, walk, stay, jump ...) <- done by the AI System
3. execute transformation (translation, rotation ...) <- no problem here, already working
4. change animation state of agent (was walking, now it should run) <- is this possible to define at runtime?
5. go to 1.

thanks a lot!
