Scripting joints to unbind/rebind during animation?

anyone know of a way to get specific joints to temporarily stop affecting a skin cluster during an animation until a certain point and then go back to affecting it again? it doesn’t specifically have to be centered around the bind and unbind commands just any tricks or techniques to get the functionality. thank you for any help!
