pathAnimation command breaks undo for previous commands (repro steps included)

Issue:

In script, commands executed before a pathAnimation command will be lost to the undo stack. (pathAnimation is the command used to attach an object to a motion path)

Repro steps:

1. create a new scene

2. create a curve

3. run this script (this is python, but it also happens in MEL):

import maya.cmds as cmds
new_sphere = cmds.polySphere()
motion_path = cmds.pathAnimation(new_sphere, curve='curve1')

4. undo with Edit>undo (or control Z)
5. Observe that the creation of the sphere (command executed before pathAnimation) is not removed in the undo operation.

I may be doing something wrong haha, but this issue seems pretty easy to reproduce. I'm on Maya 2018.6, this may have been solved since then?
