Mental Ray is MISSING

I have maya 2016 Sp6  ( on a windows desktop) and I had mental ray installed (a long time ago) and it was working fine for a long time and now that I randomly open maya, mental ray is missing? I tried reinstalling it but nothing happens, I'm still stuck with The usual maya software , maya hardware, maya hardware 2.0 and maya vector? Can someone please help me figure this out? Please I'm not sure what to do anymore and I don't want to lose my custom shelves I've made if I have to do anything drastic.

Check Plug-in Manager -> Mayatomr.mll

Hello, I downloaded the standalone version of mental ray because I already have the Maya program. I did the same things as you posted but the application is not in the plug-in manager. what should I do?

You need the plugin version not the standalone version (only included by default in Maya versions prior to Maya 2017).
