Maya saves over my externally changed scripts on exit

I'm editing some .mel scripts in VSCode.  If I do this while Maya happens to be running, then when I exit Maya, it overwrites the scripts and reverts all my changes.  Is there any way to stop Maya from doing this?  Why is it saving the scripts when I haven't changed them in Maya?

Thanks!

I didn't see any way to edit my post, but - it doesn't seem to change all of my scripts.  Maybe just the shelf scripts?

Hi,

Try "save all shelves".

I think you maybe misunderstood my question?  I do NOT want Maya to save over my shelve scripts.

I am changing them in a text editor, and when I quit Maya, Maya overwrites any changes I've made.

Maya will do this on exit and assume it has the latest changes.

There may be a preference somewhere to avoid this, or set the script files as read-only.

Other alternatives include copying the scripts instead of opening the script file directly.
