Maya 2017 crash on launch, cannot uninstall

Hi

I have a student account, and:

OS X El Capitan

Version 10.11.6

2.5GHz Intel Core i7

Graphics Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB

I tried to install Maya 2017 and this seemed to complete but whenever I try to launch it it crashes immediately, saying it quit unexpectedly.

I have updated and restarted the system. I have tried deleting everything and reinstalling with no effect. 

I have tried also using Terminal to uninstall the product key but this also says it is not found...

Please help!

Does it crash if you launch mayapy.exe?

Probably you need to update your graphics card / make sure that windows is up to date with all newest service packs
