Freezing a single transformation channel (makeIdentity)

Hey guys? Does anyone know how to freeze an individual channel, say the Y transformation channel, in python? The other transformation channels have got dependencies attached to them, so I can't just freeze them all. Is there any provision in the maya libraries, (encapsulated methods) for doing this?
