Maybe there is a technical reason this cant work but it seems like it should. If you have a single mesh head and body, and then you have a detached head that somehow got the vertex order wonked, why cant the algorithm just still start at the top of the head and work it's way down doing the reordering and when it finds there are no more vertices on the head mesh to keep going down where the body would be it just stops/finishes?
