Using physics in modelling

Hey guys :D, I'm chasing a method that would save me a ton of time.

How would I "drop" these key models (they are all separate meshes) onto a flat surface using gravity physics, so they can then be exported in a realistic position? instead of placing them tediously onto a flat surface manually.

And obviously id want no clipping to happen, so they just collide and sit on each other realistically too

thnx! 🙂

Hi!

Sorry, but if you want to save "a ton of time", don't use a simulation instead do it manually (looks like a matter of seconds).

The other way would be to use Dynamics like nCloth, Bullet or Legacy Rigid Bodies.

Well i dont know that if I dont know how long it takes to use the other method. And I intend to add a lot more keys, that is a LOT of work to arrange them just right and avoid any clipping on that many items, so I still think it would save me a ton of time to just "drop" the keys into place, done.

Hi!

If you are not familiar with the dynamics in Maya i would say you need some hours until you are satisfied with the result.

Hi!

Well, i don't know how many keys you want to add, you can try Maya Dynamics for sure, but it's never "just "drop" the keys into place, done".

Bump

Anyone know how to add physics to these keys so I can then export its final position after being dropped? thnx

Hi Jacob , as well

suggested by mspeer , you could try using Maya's dynamics and ncloth , there are many tutorials on you tube that you can find as well google, Lynda .com and pluralsight.

It's a somewhat complex process to quickly cover in the forum.

you can come back if you are stuck in a specific step.

best of luck.
