i downloaded a 3d model of a hk p30 for a model im working on (thank you turbosquid). it comes with geometry and the grip is in the form of a bump map. i need it in the form of geometry since this model with be printed. unfortunately i cant even see the bump map let alone convert it to polygons. pretty new to maya. files are attatched. any help is appreciated

Hi @Anonymous
You can technically do this with a height map but I'm not sure about a bump map. Also worth noting that it will make the model extremely high poly by doing this.

I do this a lot. I prepare models for 3D print and some details needs to be there, not just on render. I use displacement and then Modify->convert->displacement to polygons.
Oh, this one. You need to select the object go to attribute editor and under Smooth Mesh check Smooth Mesh preview (or press 3) and check Displacement preview after that the displacement should be visible in viewport
okay so heres where my issue is. i downloaded this file from turbosquid (see bottom two pictures) and ive both imported and opened the file in maya and cannot find the bump map anywhere. ill attatch the zip file to this message if you wanna see if maybe you can find it.
Ok, so the problem was in the texture editor. The file isnt there, originaly there was a PSD file attached to the bump map. And the texture does not fit for the UVs. I had to open UVs change the texture so the text is where it supposed to be. Then open hypershade it was Lambert6 and connect new file to the bump the JPEG i made for it and then you will see this. But bump map isnt actual geometry. I advice you to do the displacement and then convert it to polygons. But you cant smooth the model because it is made as low poly. My advice is to create the text separatedly and then put it where it shoud be as a separated object. Also the texture is in a bad quality so the Displacement isnt quiet good, the gun has to be pretty big to 3D printer handle this. Also the displacement will be enourmously hight you will have to change its height by changing the alpha gain on file3 to have that as hight as you wish.
the hk p30 text isnt what im worried about. theres no grip on the gun. thats what im trying to get to show up. the magazine is there but theres nothing over it. this is what im trying to turn into polygons
In the file you uploaded, there is no handle, the bottom part of the gun is missing. but if there was a bump map I would say its the same problem as with the text.
Hi @Anonymous
@Fovvl has the right idea even though we can't see it with the file provided.
Did his suggestion from yesterday help at all?

Yeah it can be corrupted, i couldnt find the handle geometry you have in printscreen. But anyway, I went through the textures and all the bump maps were in .PSD so you were missing the bump maps for the scene as well.
