Surface Menu??????

I am trying to change the revolve tool setting to create polygons, not NURBs. I can't see the surfaces menu, but I see the revolve tool. I don't want a NURBS model and I can't change it. I am using Maya 2016 student version. WHERE IS THE MENU?????????

I know I can use Convert>NURBS to Polygons, but it's stupid that I can't just set it right to begin with

Hi there! If  you are looking at the revolve tool on the shelf, just double click to get the options window and change it to polygons there. You could then save that as default.

When you say you cant see the surfaces menu, are you saying its not appearing across the top with the other menus?  Are you in the modelling menu tab? (I think you are judging by your screen grab) It is possible to customise the modelling menu tab so maybe the 'surfaces' menu has been removed?
