Smooth Preview Glitching

Hello guys, this problem started happening in Maya 2018. I did not have this problem in Maya 2017. To be clear before I state the problem, I reset my preferences and it didn't get fixed and I deleted and reinstalled Maya and it hasn't been fixed.

The problem is with proxy smoothing (I believe that's what clicking the 3 key is called). Sometimes when I try to proxy smooth the points randomly glitch out (See the images below). What is weird that the points deform differently every time I try to proxy smooth it, even when I do not change the mesh itself. This problem does not often occur at really low poly counts (0-500) but after a while the chance of the proxy  smooth mesh glitching out increases with the poly count until around 1500+ where is is pretty much impossible to proxy smooth the mesh. I can actually smooth meshes perfectly fine even at high numbers like 100k-500k polygons and nothing bad will happen but the preview is still messed up, and you obviously need to preview before you smooth things out.

My computer is not the best (I use the student version of Maya for fun, I'm not a pro), it is around 4 years old, Windows 64 OS, 1.7 GHz i3 processor, 4 GB DDR3 Ram, but it still handles 700k+ polygons in a scene pretty well, which is why I am confused of why previewing a 10k poly smooth mesh causes so much trouble (As well as the smoothing working fine at any poly count in 2017).

Anyways, let me know if you guys have any ideas and thanks in advance.

Mesh I am trying to smooth (This happens for ALL meshes, not just this one)

The three images down below show the three types or random shapes the smoothing usually forms into.

Hi!

This looks like a problem with your graphic card (/ driver).
- Make sure you use a proper 3D graphic card for Maya.
- Update graphic card driver (maybe just re-install after an OS update), or
- downgrade graphic card driver.
- Preferences -> Display -> Viewport 2.0:
Try different Viewport modes / Render engine settings like "DirectX".

It was defiantly a problem with my graphics card. Smooth preview only works when I completely disable the card.

Thanks for the help mspeer 🙂
