Smooth and edge selection problems

Hello, I'm having problems with my model when I use the smooth visualization as you can see in the picture, also when I want to select an edge loop it doesn't work, so far I tried to merge de vertex but it doesn't work 😞 .

I really appreciate if someone could help me to solve this, I spend a lot of time in this model.

Good afternoon,
The modeling looks a little strange, I think it has to do with how you modeled it (or if you swallowed it from another program), can you take a picture with the selected model?
